Following the death of Yevgeny Prigojin, Wagner’s amorphous and uncontrolled structure in Africa was completely overhauled by the Kremlin. The Russian Ministry of Defense and military intelligence (GRU) took direct state control of this “private” paramilitary legacy, restructuring it under the name of Africa Corps (African Infantry Corps).

This transformation heralds a new era in Russia’s Africa strategy:
