“Caught in an International Intelligence Web: Court documents from the East Turkistan Islamic Association case reveal an alleged covert intelligence trap involving France, China, and Interpol, alongside an espionage network later dismantled by Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT).”

92-Year Prison Sentence in Trial Linked to Allegations Involving China, France, and Interpol in an International Espionage Network Case

The court has announced its verdict in a massive conspiracy case involving international espionage networks, foreign intelligence services, and Interpol. In the case involving 12 defendants, including Yılmaz Şahin, President of the Turkistan Islamic Association (TID), and General Secretary Mustafa Canöz, the defendants were sentenced to a total of 92 years and 3 months in prison on charges including “Making Propaganda for a Terrorist Organization” on behalf of the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement / Turkistan Islamic Party.

The court sentenced Yılmaz Şahin, President of the Turkistan Islamic Association, to a total of 16.5 years in prison for three separate offenses, including propaganda for the “Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement” (also known as the Turkistan Islamic Party). The association’s General Secretary, Mustafa Canöz, was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison. However, behind these sentences lies a dirty chain of joint operations conducted by China, France, and Interpol dating back to 2015.

2015: The Interpol Trap at Atatürk Airport and 40-Kilogram Shackles

It all began in 2015 with an international trap set for Murat Aynacı, Vice President of the Turkistan Islamic Association, through the cooperation of China, France, and Interpol. Without providing any information to the Republic of Turkey, an Interpol member state, the Red Notice search for Aynacı was instantly deactivated in the system and hidden from Turkey.

This allowed Murat Aynacı to walk freely through International İstanbul Atatürk Airport. However, while Aynacı was still airborne, the Interpol Red Notice was reactivated. Detained at the Belarus Airport where his flight landed, Aynacı was handed over to the Beijing administration based on fabricated charges by China. TID Vice President Aynacı was imprisoned under severe persecution in concentration camps in East Turkistan for 3.5 years, wearing 40-kilogram shackles on his feet.

2018: Consulate-Backed Interpol Agent Disguised as a “Journalist”

The second act of the conspiracy was staged in 2018. Yılmaz Şahin, President of the Turkistan Islamic Association, was targeted through an individual who introduced himself as a “French Journalist.” This individual, who was later revealed to be an Interpol agent, enabled the apprehension of Şahin through a joint operation orchestrated by China, France, and Interpol.

WhatsApp Traffic at the Bus Terminal and the Step-by-Step Trap

Moreover, the Consulate General of France in Istanbul was at the very epicenter of this conspiracy. The statement of the agent disguised as a journalist was prepared inside the consulate itself, accompanied by a pseudo-translator who was an employee of the French Consulate. It was revealed that after the French agent approached the President of the Turkistan Islamic Association (TID) under the pretext of conducting an interview, he requested a ride to the Esenler Bus Terminal from the TID President, while simultaneously texting the French Consulate General in Istanbul via WhatsApp in real-time.

Fake Notice Triggered from the Station, Agent Smuggled Away Posthaste!

With French intelligence and French Consulate staff deploying to the Esenler Bus Terminal ahead of the association president, the trap set by the partnership of China, France, and Interpol became ready. The conspiracy was initiated through a fabricated notice starting from the terminal police station, coordinated by the French Interpol agent and the employee of the French Consulate General in Istanbul. This individual, allegedly from the French Consulate General, arrived under the guise of a translator and delivered the necessary tips as if they were statements directly from the agent’s mouth. During this interrogation phase, where no translator from the Turkish Police Station or the Turkish judicial system was present, the French agent could not even be properly questioned. Realizing he would be exposed after the incident, the fake journalist and Interpol agent was smuggled away to France posthaste without even being brought before any court in Turkey. The Turkish judiciary permitted this departure.

The Fake Notice Scandal Recorded in Police Minutes

When police teams raided the house targeted by the French intelligence agent disguised as a journalist, the fabricated notice plot was completely exposed. The residents living in the raided house stated that they absolutely did not know the President of the Turkistan Islamic Association and that they had been using that house as a family for years.

Despite these statements and the trap set by the agent being officially recorded in police and security minutes—proving the groundlessness of the notice—the court ignored the evidence. Facing clear contradictions in concrete documents and police records, the President of the Turkistan Islamic Association could not escape being penalized in a manner contrary to justice.

2024: The French Espionage Network Dismantled by MİT

These reckless activities of foreign intelligence services in Turkey hit a wall in 2024, courtesy of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT). Just as in past conspiracies, MİT launched an operation against an espionage network operating in connection with French Intelligence and the French Consulate, whose members introduced themselves as activists and journalists, catching 10 suspects red-handed.

It was documented that an individual named Ahmed Katie, who was at the center of that operation, had applied for asylum with his family at the French Consulate General in Istanbul. In return for this asylum request, the French Foreign Intelligence Service (DGSE) had conditioned Katie to engage in military and political espionage against Turkey.

Heavy Sentence Emerges from a 16-Year-Old Case Where the Prosecutor Demanded Acquittal!

This international plot, established through the cooperation of China, France, and Interpol, also directly affected a case opened 16 years ago against the Turkistan Islamic Association by the Ankara 6th High Criminal Court. Even the prosecution (the prosecutor’s office), which pursued a conviction during the trials at the Ankara 6th High Criminal Court, acknowledged in its official opinion that “no concrete and convincing evidence beyond all reasonable doubt could be obtained” indicating that the President of the Turkistan Islamic Association committed the alleged offenses, and explicitly demanded his ACQUITTAL. However, one of the greatest contradictions in judicial history occurred; despite this clear and unambiguous opinion of the prosecution for an “acquittal due to lack of evidence,” a heavy sentence emerged years later without any new concrete evidence or legal basis, triggered entirely by the China-France-Interpol trap.

Penalization Under the Charge of Making Propaganda for the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement

Following this shocking development, a precedent was set in Turkish legal history by issuing a conviction against the Turkistan Islamic Association for “Terrorist Organization Propaganda” through the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (also known as the Turkistan Islamic Party). Yet, the Turkistan Islamic Party, which holds global legitimacy, is an organization that was completely removed from the Terrorist Organization List by the United States in 2015. Furthermore, the movement gained the status of military generalship within the newly established Syrian Government in Syria, becoming an official and democratic institution, moving away from Sharia and jihadist rhetoric, and officially becoming part of the Democratic Syrian Military.

No Propaganda Offense: Entirely Within the Scope of Journalism and Freedom of Thought

The activities of the movement, which is not included in international terror lists and holds a legitimate status, were conducted on completely legal and transparent grounds in Turkey. Despite the absence of any concrete propaganda offense committed, all operations carried out under the umbrella of the Doğu Türkistan Bülten News Agency were placed in the crosshairs. Journalism activities, performed entirely within the scope of information gathering, freedom of thought, and expression in accordance with universal press principles, were framed as criminal elements. The Turkistan Islamic Association was unjustly penalized based on these legal media and information operations.

Eyes on the Final Verdict of the High Court

In the shadow of these operations systematically carried out for years by Chinese and French intelligence, backed by Interpol, the astronomical sentence totaling 92.3 years handed down to the executives of the Turkistan Islamic Association now awaits the final ruling at the Court of Cassation and Regional Courts of Appeal stage. All attention is turned to the final outcome of this case, overshadowed by international conspiracies, in the higher court.

Will the traps set by China, France, and Interpol against East Turkistan non-governmental organizations in Turkey and worldwide ever end? How much longer will Turkish Intelligence allow this? Are the highest authorities of the Republic of Turkey—the Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, the Police, and Intelligence—aware of the sentences handed down in East Turkistan cases in their courts? Or are they asleep? Are they aware of the judicial tutelage over East Turkistan cases?
